Some details of DARPA's very ambitious Vulcan engine program have finally been made public. A Ramjet/Scramjet hybrid engine, the specifications call for the engine to change modes 'on the fly' (as it were). The bottom line is an engine that could propel a plane to somewhere between Mach 6 and Mach 10 - which is very fast indeed.
