If you need to make a tank 'disappear', you might want to talk to the folks at BAE Systems. Their 'Adaptive Camouflage Cloak' designed for combat vehicles will make them invisible to infrared sensors. The adaptive tiles can also send false images to make the vehicle appear to be something completely different - like a car, a flock of birds, and so on.
