Scientists have manipulated the brains of fruit flies to create false memories of pain. Using a laser to stimulate precise points - they can fool the fruit fly into to remembering pain, and altering it's behavior. Which is a lot of effort for a practical joke on a fruit fly. It does pave the way for some pretty strange experiments on people in the future.
